Yaröla

Since 2016

Our Story

Yaröla was not born in an office. It was born in a dugout canoe going up the Chagres River, at a table shared with an Emberá family, the first time the sea of Guna Yala fell silent at dusk.

The Brand

The country that remained a secret

Since 2016, our founder has walked Panama inch by inch not as a tourist, but as a student. Years of walking its rainforests, sailing its two seas and sitting down to listen to its native peoples revealed an uncomfortable truth: the most connected country on the continent remained, at its deepest core, a secret. Places that remain untouched. Living cultures that predate the maps. A territory small in size and immense in soul.

Yaröla is born from the fusion of Panama's indigenous languages guna, emberá and ngäbe, joining sounds and meanings that evoke connection, nature and origin. It is a tribute to those who have cared for this isthmus since long before recorded time, and a statement of how we understand luxury: not as abundance, but as closeness. Closeness to what is untouched, to what is true.

Today, Yaröla exists with a clear purpose: to design extraordinary journeys that honor the soul of Panama and regenerate it. Because the places that transformed us deserve to be left better than we found them.

The Founder

José Rubén Macías

Panamanian, founder and lead curator of Yaröla.

Trained in banking and risk management, Rubén built his first career in the financial world, where he learned the discipline that today defines Yaröla's operation: precision, foresight and an obsession with detail. But it was in 2016, exploring his own country, that he found his true calling.

What began as curiosity became a decade of discovery: expeditions to corners that appear in no guidebook, genuine friendships with guna, emberá and ngäbe communities, and the growing certainty that Panama, his Panama, was one of the world's great untold destinations.

In 2019 he founded Our Panama, today an established inbound operator that has welcomed thousands of travelers from more than 40 countries across five continents. But over the years, a conviction took shape: the world's most discerning travelers don't want to see Panama, they want to feel it. And that kind of journey demanded a house of its own.

Travel with someone who fell in love with this country long before making that love his profession.
